For the first time ever, I felt the need to get out of London for some headspace and a bit of life strategy. I had planned for my itinerary to be “distraction by overstimulation” and my agenda was PACKED.
Lo and behold, I arrive to the most beautifully decorated guest room, a home-cooked Portuguese meal, a hot water bottle and all the comfort of care and honest conversation from my friends. The sort of thing you didn’t know you needed until you had it.
I stayed with the phenomenal Antonia, creator at She is Awake, host extraordinaire and a dear friend I initially connected with via instagram.
First evening: Carnival by the pier at sunset, all the glitter, music and beautiful people. Funfair, cotton candy, midnight snacks and tired smiles.
The next three days: I was working for some of my time there, so these days involved home-cooked lunches on a sunny balcony, couch catch ups, living room dances, mat pilates, strong coffee and a random evening of watercolour painting.
Day four was when I went to town. Literally. Visits to my favourite bookshop, hikes to see views, strong espressos, out-of-tune guitar music accompanying a cloudless sunset.
The last day was my favourite day. For the lovely dinner at Amelia’s, for the dancing in the converted (car) Park Bar, for the warm weather, the good company, the car ride home, the handsome FaceTime caller at 4 am and the perfect sunset at take-off.
