Carrie Mae Weems – Reflections for Now

If you’re into art exhibitions, I’ve got just the thing for you… and if you’re not, I’VE GOT JUST THE THING FOR YOU. For anyone who is in London now or until September 3rd, there’s absolutely no reason to miss this exhibition….issa must!

Carrie Mae Weems Reflections for Now | Silk St, Barbican, London EC2Y 8DS

Carrie Mae Weems is one of the most influential black American artists of today, and her work reflects a variety of topics related to the black experience from an American point of view.

I came across her by sheer coincidence, attended one of her lectures, and have been absolutely hooked on following her artistic journey ever since.

Her work is lyrical and engaging, and the exhibition is incredibly well-narrated. Make sure to read the text next to the art for some context and to be immersed in the stories she tells.

On a personal note, seeing artists that look like me, who have already lived a major chunk of their lives and are willing to share their experiences, is invaluable. It inspires and fuels me to pursue and allow my creative side to seep through.

The Barbican is also a great place to grab a drink after or take a stroll around the phenomenal brutalist architecture that strikes me every time I am there.
